DeWyze to give a sneak peak of tour at TVBWF

Even if you are already familiar with vocalist and musician Lee DeWyze through radio singles or on television, seeing him onstage is a whole other ball game.

“I prefer to play live than in a studio because I like connecting with an audience,” DeWyze said during a recent interview. “I like seeing their reactions and people dancing and singing. It’s good times.”

Best known for being the season nine winner of Fox’s hit reality television show “American Idol,” DeWyze was already an accomplished performer and songwriter long before he stood in line with 12,000 hopefuls at Chicago’s United Center back in early 2010.

A native of Mount Prospect, Ill., DeWyze was discovered by an indie record label in Chicago directly out of high school and released two independent albums; garnishing loyal fans throughout the indie club scene.

DeWyze actively pursued a music career long before taking the “Idol” stage and he has some advice for those looking to follow in his footsteps, whether it be performing in clubs or possibly auditioning for “Idol’s” 2012 season.

“Get used to hearing no, but don’t ever give up. Nobody ever accomplished anything by giving up,” he said. “Know who you are and what you’re willing to sacrifice.”

After winning the “Idol” crown, DeWyze was signed to 19 Entertainment/RCA Records and released his first commercial studio album, “Live it Up,” in November 2010.

Being a songwriter as well as a performer, DeWyze is proud of the unique sound and personal stories his fans will experience when they hear the album’s 11 tracks.

“My sound is rock, folk, acoustic, pop,” he said. “I want to make music people can relate to while also writing from personal experience.”

To promote the album, DeWyze recently concluded an extensive tour of Asia and kicks off a 12-city U.S. tour on June 19.

“I’m really looking forward to the tour and I can’t wait to see the fans in the U.S.,” he said. “And I’m really excited to play a show in California.”

Lucky for Inland Empire residents, that California stop is right here in town. Ticketholders for the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival will get a special sneak peak at the upcoming tour as DeWyze takes the main stage on Saturday.

Those lucky enough to catch the show will hopefully be surprised by DeWyze’s unique folky sound and magnetic energy.

“It’s not like anything out there. It’s a different show with a cool sound,” DeWyze said. “You can expect to see a show full of emotion and have a really good time.”

A red wine drinker himself, DeWyze looks forward to relaxing with fans at the festival as well as putting on one heck of a show.

“I want people to see that I am a true artist, not just an ‘American Idol’ winner,” DeWyze said. “Come on out and judge for yourself. You may be surprised.”
